A family of four from California, on their first trip to Los Cabos, celebrated their son’s first birthday with a golden hour session on the beach right in front of the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos gazebo. Mom found me through Instagram, then took a look at my website before reaching out to book, and from there we planned a relaxed evening full of sandcastles, a spontaneous horseback ride along the shore, and genuine, unposed family moments.

The beach at Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is a great spot for family sessions, wide, soft sand, calm turquoise water, and the resort’s iconic gazebo as a natural landmark that instantly places the photos in San José del Cabo. This particular session brought together a family of four visiting from California for the very first time, celebrating their son’s first birthday on the beach.
We timed the session for golden hour, about an hour before sunset, when the light turns soft and warm and the beach quiets down, giving families room to move, play, and relax without crowds in the background. That evening brought a soft, overcast sky, instead of the usual warm sunset colors, the clouds gave us a beautiful diffused light, which is common in Los Cabos during the summer season and still makes for gorgeous, flattering portraits. Sessions at Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos typically run 45–60 minutes, enough time to capture group portraits, sibling moments, a couple’s portrait, and candid unposed moments as the family enjoys the beach.
